The paddlewheeler Mississippi Queen one of four remaining Majestic America Line vessels has been sold off by Ambassadors International
CFO Mark Detillion said the vessel was sold on Friday at salvage value. The ship has been idle in New Orleans for several years and never actually sailed under the Majestic America Line banner, it has been sold to an undisclosed buyer.
Supposedly the buyer may have an industrial use for the vessel and it likely will not be scrapped.
The remaining Majestic America Line vessels are Delta Queen, on bareboat charter as a floating hotel in Chattanooga, Tenn., Columbia Queen and Contessa. There has been ‘some interest’ from potential buyers in Delta Queen and Columbia Queen.
Ambassadors International has been trying to dispose of the vessels as it focuses on its Windstar Cruises brand.
Ambassadors International said it signed a definitive agreement to sell Queen of the West to Blue Spruce LLC, an affiliate of American Cruise Lines.
The 142-passenger Queen of the West most recently operated seven-night cruises on the Columbia and Snake rivers round-trip from Portland, Ore. The vessel features 71 staterooms, four decks, a dining room, a show room, a lounge and a bar and grill.
With this sale, Ambassadors continues to execute the plan announced in February to focus all capital and efforts on Windstar Cruises and the small ship luxury segment.
