The Mail Buoy Episode 112

Posted by Michael on 06/02/08

No, we didn’t give up on the show. We really did plan on doing more than just one show for the entire month of May. Unfortunately a crisis disrupted our production schedule, but we’re getting back on track and have a brand spanking new show for you this week.

First was just a few stories from while we were gone that we wanted to touch on.

Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Azamara have revised their infant and pregnancy policies.

We’ve got to stop calling it Project Genesis, Royal Caribbean’s newest will now be Oasis of The Seas and Allure of The Seas, both of the Oasis Class.

Norwegian Spirit caused minor damage to a pier while docking in New York and the hull for Seabourn Odyssey has been delivered to the shipyard as construction continues.

We quickly recapped Seasocks ‘08, it was an eventful sailing to say the least. Be sure to check out among others the CraftLit podcast, and their friends over at NPR’s Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me (we’re so not worthy of some of the folks we got to hang out with ;) ). For the knitting inclined you should also check out our friends at CastOn and of course Knitty too. A very big thanks also to the kind folks at Churchmouse Yarns & Teas and of course Beehive Wool Shop and all of the other yarn stores that graciously hosted the group over the week.

Now that we’ve wrapped up Seasocks ‘08 we can announce the details for Seasocks ‘09. You’ll find them all here.

Watch this Podcast over the next few months too… We’re going to be on one of the final sailings of Queen Elizabeth 2 as she bids her farewells to Britain and the Cunard fleet. More details will be coming over the next several months.

Seabourn Odyssey Hull Arrives at T.Mariotti

Posted by Michael on 05/30/08

Seabourn OdysseySleek and streamlined, the new steel hull destined to become the ultra-luxury cruising yacht Seabourn Odyssey arrived at T.Mariotti’s quay in Genoa, Italy, on May 27. The hull, built in San Giorgio di Nogaro in the Gulf of Venice, was towed southward through the Adriatic, around the heel and up the coast of Italy to the T.Mariotti shipyard, where blocks of the yacht’s superstructure have been under construction while the hull was being completed. Final construction and fitting out of the vessel will be performed over the next year in time for the vessel’s launch in June 2009.

The arrival of the hull marks a major milestone toward delivery of three intimate cruise vessels from T.Mariotti S.p.A. for Seabourn, the ultra-luxury brand of Miami-based Carnival Corporation & PLC. The €200 million Seabourn Odyssey will be the cruise industry’s first ultra-luxury addition in six years. A maximum of 450 guests will travel on board, in luxurious all-suite accommodations measuring from 290 to over 1,600 square feet, over 90 percent with private verandas. The cruising yacht will offer guests five dining alternatives, five lounges and bars, an expansive pool and sunbathing area, and a spectacular two-deck, indoor/outdoor spa facility with more than 11,400 square feet to go around. Seabourn Odyssey’s maiden season will include voyages from the grand cities and romantic isles of the Mediterranean to the waters of the Caribbean, before embarking on Seabourn’s first-ever World Cruise in January 2010.

The Mail Buoy Episode 96

Posted by Michael on 02/11/08

Since it was such an incredibly slow news week we just couldn’t get inspired to come up with a good topic this week. As a result we were expecting that this would be a really short show.

Instead we got to talking about the new restaurants coming to Celebrity Solstice and the transfer of Pride of Hawai’i among other things and the next thing we knew we had a 50 some odd minute show… Go figure!

A simple show this week is fine - because next week we have something cool planned. You’ll just have to come back to find out about it!
