The Mail Buoy Episode 124

Posted by Michael on 09/01/08

It may be Labor Day Weekend but we’ve still got a show for you this week.  It’s a good thing too because there was a lot of cruise news this week.

Crystal announced that they’ve enhanced their onboard music classes in June. However Princess has enhanced their onboard fitness programs and Captains Circle benefits now.

Disney Wonder hosted a Disney Channel television premier and Royal Caribean announced the two newest neighborhoods on Oasis of The Seas.

The weather dominated the rest of the show, and based on the current forecasts it looks like that’s going to be the focus of the entire week.  After quickly running down the changes this past week we talk about some of the things you want to keep in mind if you want to cruise during hurricane season.

The Mail Buoy Episode 123

Posted by Michael on 08/25/08

This week it was the Carnival Cruise Lines news show with three ships moving and one more getting some revised itineraries.

Carnival Fantasy will be moving to Mobile next year, being replaced by Carnival Triumph in New Orleans.  Meanwhile Carnival Holiday will join the Iberocruceros fleet.  Carnival Elation’s 3 and 4 day sailings from San Diego are being tweaked as well.

Disney Cruise Line has applied for Glacier Bay access beginning in 2010, and cruise lines have addressed the concerns raised earlier about Ocean Ranger’s access to shipboard operations.

Finally a proposal by the US Coast Guard to revise stability models may cause some passenger vessels to reduce their passenger capacity.

Speaking of the US Coast Guard, this past week I got the rare opportunity to sail onboard the USCGC Eagle the largest and only square rigged barque in US Government service.  It’s a cruise of a different sort that we’re talking about this week.  Photos from the trip will be up in the photo gallery very soon.

We may have missed a week, but we’re back now.  Taking the week off allowed us to collect a whole show’s worth of cruise line news too.

Carnival Sensation will be getting her Evolutions of Fun upgrades in January, while Carnival Fantasy will be staying in Mobile until she heads to the shipyards for her own Evolutions of Fun upgrades.

MSC will be sending their two newest ships to the Caribbean for the 2009/10 season and orders two new Musica class ships from Aker Yards.

Carnival will be recategorizing their staterooms and we get some insight into how Joe Farcus designs ships for Carnival and Costa.

Cabo San Lucas is getting some infrastructure updates and is considering an actual cruise ship pier.

Princess has selected the Godparents for Ruby Princess and we get a look at some of what’s planned for Seabourn Odyssey.

Be sure to check in next week when I’ll be talking about a different sort of cruise that I’m taking this week.

No Podcast This Week

Posted by Michael on 08/11/08

Unfortunately there won’t be a podast this week.  We went camping on Saturday which is when we normally record the show.  As a result we had planned on recording the show on Sunday instead.  However things have cropped up this week that would have prevented us from getting a show up until Thursday.

We’re going to work on getting a show up for next week, however I’ve been invited to take part in a very special cruise on board the USCGC Eagle, unfortunately I don’t know exactly when I’ll be leaving to join the ship - don’t ask, it gives me a headache just thinking about it ;) .  We’re just going to have to play the next week or so by ear…
