The Mail Buoy Episode 97

Posted by Michael on 02/17/08

The majority of this week was dominated by just one cruise line - NCL America.  Last week it was the departure of Pride of Hawai’i from the Hawai’i fleet, this week NCL America announced that Pride of Aloha was leaving the fleet too.  The announcement comes ahead of a much anticipated ruling on cabotage law interpretations from US Customs and Border Patrol.

In theory, Pride of America should be remaining in Hawai’i at least through 2010 and the stories at the beginning of the week seemed to indicate that - until USAToday and the Honolulu Star Bulletin report that NCL has been hinting to Hawai’i state leaders that if the CBP ruling doesn’t go their way then Pride of America could potentially leave the islands as well…

While we understand NCL’s concerns - the uncertainty that they are injecting into the issue doesn’t help anybody.  NCL’s casting doubt on their ability or desire to remain in Hawai’i for the long run makes it hard to make a confident decision about sailing on NCLAmerica.

There was some other news this week - like the lawsuit filed against various cruise lines accusing them of collusion when implementing their fuel surcharges late last year.  Oceania’s Regatta  was a good samaratan. Royal Caribbean will upgrade their Labadee pier to accommodate the Genesis ships, and Celebrity and Azamara will join Princess and offer weddings at sea…

Celebrity and Azamara to Expand Onboard Wedding Programs

Posted by Michael on 02/14/08

The sailor’s knot is known for being easy to tie but hard to break. Now, guests who wish to be married at sea by captains of Azamara Cruises’ and Celebrity Cruises’ ships will soon be able to “tie” their own steadfast “knot” at sea, when the lines launch legal, captain-led wedding ceremonies later this year to complement their existing vow renewal and in-port wedding offerings.

“While many of our guests come onboard seeking a once-in-a-lifetime wedding or vow renewal location, and we’ve been happy to provide them with in-port weddings led by a local official, their number-one request is for captains to perform the ceremony,” said Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, Azamara Cruises and Celebrity Cruises Vice President of Hotel Operations. “Now, we’re able to fulfill that wish, while sailing the open waters of the world.”

Celebrity has long partnered with The Wedding Experience to offer onboard vow renewals at sea and in-port wedding ceremonies, and with the recent re-registration of seven of Celebrity’s eight ships in Malta, where Azamara’s two ships also are registered, government regulations have changed to allow for captains to perform legal marriages while the ships sail the seas of the world.

Guests being married at sea by Azamara and Celebrity captains will be offered a variety of packages that include anything from private receptions in their ship’s specialty restaurant to cake, champagne, and more. Basic captain-performed wedding packages begin at $2,500. Guests should book their wedding in advance of their sailing in order to allow time for the processing of licenses and other legal documents.

Guests who wish to take their love to new heights may also delight in Celebrity’s unique offering on its cruisetours to Talkeetna Alaskan Lodge and The Hotel Alyeska. There, guests can be married or renew their vows amidst the breathtaking hanging glaciers of the Girdwood Valley, or with stunning views of Mt. McKinley as a backdrop. These ceremonies can take place from June to September, as part of a Celebrity Cruises pre-or post-voyage cruisetour.

Posted by Michael on 10/31/07

Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises continue to closely monitor the path and progress of Tropical Storm Noel to ensure our guests enjoy safe and comfortable cruises, and to make certain our ships steer clear of the storm.

The safety of our guests and crew is always the foremost concern of Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Cruises.

Given Tropical Storm Noel’s location and projected path, Royal Caribbean is currently providing itinerary updates regarding three ships.  Azamara Cruises is currently altering the itinerary of one ship. Celebrity Cruises is not currently altering the itineraries of any ships:

Majesty of the Seas will not make its scheduled port call in Coco Cay, Bahamas, Wednesday.  Instead, the ship will visit Cozumel, Mexico, Wednesday; will be at sea, Thursday; and return to the Port of Miami as scheduled, Friday.

CELEBRITY CRUISES

Celebrity Cruises is not currently altering the itineraries of any ships.

Azamara Welcomes Azamara Quest

Posted by Michael on 10/22/07

Azamara QuestAzamara Cruises is on a quest to conquer the deluxe cruise market. The new cruise brand today officially adds the 694-guest Azamara Quest to its fleet, as the ship sets sail on the first of its two special two-night cruises from Miami, followed by a series of exotic Caribbean and Panama Canal itineraries.

Azamara Cruises, unveiled in May 2007, was designed to fill a niche: a cruise product presenting a more intimate, exclusive onboard experience, while allowing access to the less-traveled ports of call experienced travelers want to visit.

While steeping guests in the history and culture of remote destinations larger ships can’t reach, Azamara Cruises offers guests a more exclusive experience. Like its sister ship, Azamara Journey, Azamara Quest offers butler service in every stateroom and suite; concierge-style amenities, including fresh-cut flowers, fresh fruit and Elemis toiletries; complimentary use of Frette cotton robes, two complimentary pairs of slippers; plasma TVs, and plush European bedding.

Azamara Quest arrived in Miami on October 19 following a nearly $20-million makeover, including the conversion of 48 staterooms into 32 suites; opening up the “Looking Glass Lounge” at the pinnacle of the forward end of the ship to offer 180-degree views, a new stone dance floor and new bandstand; a complete refurbishment of the dining areas to create two new specialty restaurants; an expansion of the spa area to include an aesthetics suite; a new Sunset Bar on the aft deck; a new art collection; the new Mosaic Café and Club Luxe; entirely new carpets and flooring throughout; new exterior decking; new paint schemes; new walls, and entirely new “soft goods,” ranging from plush European bedding to cushions, drapes and table linens.
