Posted by Michael on 10/18/07

Monarch of The SeasRoyal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. announced that Royal Caribbean International’s Sovereign of the Seas will be reassigned to the company’s Pullmantur fleet, and the Los Angeles-based Monarch of the Seas will assume Sovereign of the Seas‘ sailings out of Port Canaveral. These changes will take place in October and November 2008.

“We are fortunate that our mix of brands allows us the flexibility and opportunity to expand in key strategic markets and to diversify in existing ones,” said Royal Caribbean International President and CEO Adam Goldstein. “We thank our partners at the ports of Los Angeles, Ensenada, Catalina and San Diego for our outstanding and ongoing relationship. We look forward to providing our Monarch of the Seas guests with exceptional vacations as we visit those locations through next fall.”

Sovereign of the Seas‘ last scheduled sailing for Royal Caribbean International will be on October 31, 2008. Two subsequent cruises, scheduled for November 3 and 7, will be canceled, and guests booked on those cruises will receive a full refund and an onboard credit for rebooking an earlier Sovereign of the Seas sailing during 2008 (excluding holidays). All rebookings must be made by December 31, 2007. All guests currently booked on Sovereign of the Seas on or after November 10, 2008, will be re-accommodated onboard Monarch of the Seas.

Monarch of the Seas will make its last regularly scheduled sailing out of Los Angeles on October 13, 2008. All guests currently booked on a subsequent sailing will receive a full refund and an onboard credit for rebooking a three, four or five-night Caribbean sailing, or a seven-night Mexican Riviera sailing, onboard Royal Caribbean International in 2008 (excluding holidays). All rebookings must be made by December 31, 2007.

On October 17, 2008, Monarch of the Seas will reposition to the East Coast when it departs Los Angeles on a 16-night Panama Canal cruise to Miami. The ship will then undergo a scheduled, weeklong dry-dock before welcoming its first Port Canaveral guests for three and four-night Bahamas sailings starting November 10, 2008.

Paul GauguinRegent Seven Seas Cruises, has reached an agreement with ship owner Paul Gauguin Shipping Limited (PGSL) that extends Regent Seven Seas’ exclusive contract to operate and manage the 330-guest ship Paul Gauguin through January of 2010.

The new agreement extends Regent Seven Seas’ previous contract with PGSL by one year. The pact will be reviewed annually and extended based upon mutual agreement between PGSL and Regent Seven Seas Cruises.

Paul Gauguin has been an extremely popular ship that has transformed the cruise marketplace in French Polynesia,” said Mark Conroy, president of Regent Seven Seas Cruises. “As we approach the tenth anniversary of uninterrupted South Pacific cruising with the Gauguin, we are very pleased to continue the operation and management of this magnificent luxury vessel.”

Named for the famous 19th century post-Impressionist artist who found his inspiration in the lifestyle and people of French Polynesia, Paul Gauguin was launched at the end of 1997 and immediately began its year-round operations from Papeete. The ship has offered French Polynesia voyages ever since and has become a South Seas legend, having carried over 100,000 cruise guests to this magical destination.

Princess Announces 2007 Onboard Holiday Plans

Posted by Michael on 10/18/07

A white Christmas in the Caribbean … Mexico…Hawaii … or even Brazil? It may seem unlikely, but this holiday season passengers on most Princess ships will find themselves in a winter wonderland as snow magically falls in the ships’ atriums on December cruises. This daily snow flurry is one of several new onboard holiday activities added to celebrate the spirit of the season. Also new this year, passengers can participate in a “gingerbread challenge” housebuilding competition, test their craft skills by creating a personalized photo ornament, or just relax in front of a traditional burning Yule log … on their stateroom television! And for those who can’t get enough of Christmas carols, the ships’ Princess Pop Star talent show will feature a holiday edition where competitors can croon their favorite seasonal songs.

The innovative snow-making process will create falling flakes that vanish on contact, letting passengers enjoy the romance of a winter snowfall without the need to bundle up. Princess’ daily snowfall will occur on all ships except for the line’ three small vessels - Pacific Princess, Tahitian Princess and Royal Princess — which do not have large, multi-story atriums.

There’s more than just snow though, click on “more” below to see what else Princess has planned.
