Since the 2007 Alaska cruise season is starting spin up as ships start repositioning to the Pacific Northwest, I figured it was a good time to bring back our first episode of Cruising Anywhere but the Caribbean where we take a look at Alaska as a cruise destination.
There’s still some deals to be had for Alaska so give us a call at 888-286-9827!

Long the leader in cruising both Alaska’s Inside Passage and its dramatic glacier rimmed Gulf Coast, Princess Cruises announces that its 2008 Gulf of Alaska program will feature five vessels, including one which will offer the most destination-intensive itinerary in Alaska. Sailing in Alaska for the first time, the intimate Tahitian Princess will debut a new longer “Connoisseur” route that features a number of unique and memorable experiences not usually included on most Alaskan cruises, including the chance to view the famous brown bears of Kodiak, explore the natural beauty of “Alaska’s Little Switzerland,” at Valdez and revel in one of Alaska’s best wildlife spectacles from Seward, the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park.
Princess ships will offer 73 signature Gulf of Alaska sailings and eight departures of the new Connoisseur voyages throughout the May to September season. Ranging in size from 670 to 2,670 passengers, ships include Diamond Princess, Sapphire Princess, Coral Princess and Island Princess, each returning for another season of the seven-night “Voyage of the Glaciers” cruises between Vancouver and Whittier, and Tahitian Princess, which for the first time joins the lineup with its 14-day Connoisseur cruise sailing roundtrip from Vancouver.
The seven-day Gulf of Alaska cruises can also be combined with one of 34 different land tour options for a complete cruisetour featuring the best of Alaska by land and sea, including the state’s two most sought-after destinations on every departure - Glacier Bay National Park and Denali National Park. All of the line’s 2008 Gulf of Alaska cruises include calls in Glacier Bay, and Princess ships will carry more passengers to this spectacle of ice and sea life than any other cruise line. In addition, travelers headed to Denali arrive earlier with Princess’ exclusive Direct to the Wilderness rail service to/from Whittier, giving them more time to explore the state’s dramatic interior.

Princess Cruises has announced its full 2008 cruise program in French Polynesia which features a spring season from January through May, and a fall schedule from October through December. Cruises will continue aboard the intimate Tahitian Princess on the popular 10-day itinerary sailing roundtrip from Papeete, and visiting Huahine, Rangiroa, Raiatea, Bora Bora and Moorea. “We’ve enjoyed good success with our Tahiti-based cruises, and our passengers have been enthusiastic about the islands and the warm welcome from the people of French Polynesia,” said Alan Buckelew, president of Princess Cruises. “So we’re pleased to return not only for the spring of 2008, but to also announce we will be home-porting Tahitian Princess in Papeete in the fall of 2008 as well.”
Princess began roundtrip cruising from Papeete through French Polynesia in 2002, when Tahitian Princess joined the fleet. Since that time, the line has brought over 135,000 passengers to this idyllic destination on this ship alone. Other Princess ships also call on French Polynesian ports during transit calls.
“We are very pleased that Princess Cruises has fulfilled their five-year obligation to our country,” said Maina Sage, French Polynesia’s Minister of Tourisme and the Environment. “In addition, Princess Cruises has reinforced their commitment to our destination by announcing that our partnership will continue when they return to our waters in the coming years,” Sage added. Chief Executive of Tahiti Tourisme, Ms. Dany Panero commented positively as well. “The working relationship with Princess Cruises over the past several years has been extremely professional and efficient. On behalf of our country, and our partners in tourism, we would like to thank Princess for their contributions to our destination.”
Between the spring and fall of 2008, Tahitian Princess will reposition north to offer a brand-new Connoisseur itinerary in Alaska. Following her first summer season is this destination, the ship will return to French Polynesia to again offer the intimate-style of cruising which has proved so popular with Princess passengers.
