“Fiesta Latina” and “Far From Over: the 80s” – two lavish revues featuring fast-paced musical numbers and elaborate costumes and sets – will be featured on Carnival Cruise Lines’ “Fun Ship” Fascination following a scheduled dry dock in September.
The new shows will be among the varied entertainment options available on the 2,052-passenger SuperLiner, which operates year-round three- and four-day cruises from Miami.
“The Fascination is one of the cruise industry’s most popular short cruise options and these new shows, along with the many facilities and features incorporated during its upcoming dry dock, will make a terrific ‘Fun Ship’ even better,” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.
Making its Carnival debut is “Fiesta Latina,” which like the name implies, pays homage to the pulsating Latin and Caribbean rhythms of these two musical genres. The show takes viewers on a journey through various musical hotspots, opening with a visit to a sultry Havana nightclub with an elaborate number featuring varied versions of the mambo.
Next, it’s on to Jamaica where colorfully clad singers and dancers perform a host of Latin and reggae numbers. The last stop is Brazil featuring a dramatic backdrop resembling the Amazonian jungle, followed by a show-stopping finale.
The second show, “Far From Over: the 80s” celebrates the era of “big hair,” leg warmers and, of course, unforgettable music. Featuring a set of oversized icons of the decade, the show kicks off with a captivating laser display, and includes tributes to the music of the 80s.
To accommodate the extensive technical capabilities of these two new shows, the Fascination’s 1,300-seat Palace Lounge will be completely overhauled and feature a new revolving turntable, orchestra pit and a recessed speaker system enhancing the room’s already impressive sound quality and overall visibility. New stage lighting and a computerized audio/visual communications network will be added, as well.
The 70,000-ton Fascination sails year-round from Miami on three- and four-day cruises. On this route, three-day cruises depart Fridays and overnight in Nassau while four-day voyages depart Mondays and stop at Key West and Cozumel.
Carnival is currently accepting reservations on all of the Fascination’s three- and four-day departures. You'll find more information about Fascination's itineraries at Cruise Planners or call us at 888-286-9827 to book your voyage. In addition to the head tax, the measure calls for taxes on gambling profits onboard cruise ships, taxes on corporate profits, independent licensed engineers to monitor pollution as well as disclosures on tour sales.
The next step is for Alaskan officials to figure out how to implement the new tax measure.
Oosterdam have both been retrofitted to use the shore power provided by the Port of Seattle.
The ships will buy electricity provided by Seattle City Light while docked in Seattle, allowing the ship to shut down it's diesel engines while in port and reducing pollution in the city.
Holland America spent $1 million per ship to retrofit them for shore power, and an additional $1.5 million was spend pierside to install hook-ups and install a transformer. With the exception of a $25,000 grant from the EPA and the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency all of the costs for the installations were paid for by Holland America. In addition it costs the line approximately $5,000 for power each time a ship pulls in to Seattle.
Noordam is scheduled to be retrofitted for shoe power in time for its 2007 sailings from Seattle.
