MSC Extends Kids Sail Free Offer to 06/07 Caribbean Season
MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises’ special “Kids Sail Free” holiday offer has proven so popular that the line is extending it to nearly all of its winter 2006-07 Caribbean season sailings.

“The ‘Kids Sail Free’ program combined with special promotional rates makes this an incomparable family vacation value and a trip the whole family will never forget,” adds Jim Henwood, senior vice president of sales, marketing and passenger services for MSC Cruises (USA).

Youngsters ages 17 and under sharing a stateroom with two full-fare-paying adults sail free on MSC Lirica and MSC Opera on nearly all of the ships’ roundtrip sailings from Fort Lauderdale. Most cruiseonly departures are priced at $1,150 per person (double occupancy) or less. Since a limited number of staterooms are available in conjunction with the “Kids Sail Free” offer, guests are encouraged to book early.

Families will enjoy MSC Cruises’ variety of itineraries, including Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, West Indies, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Panama, Colombia, Bahamas, St. Thomas, Grand Cayman and Mexico.

In addition to beautiful beaches (including the cruise line’s private paradise off the coast of Samana in the Dominican Republic) and fascinating cultural experiences, shore excursions are available to such historic sights as the Panama Canal. Through it all, guests can enjoy the “Beautiful. Passionate. Italian.” experience as only MSC Cruises can present it. “Our Italian officers and international staff create an environment that allows all our guests – no matter what their age – to enjoy a vacation like no other,” says Henwood.

The entire family can enjoy a vacation with a truly Italian flavor while visiting some of the Caribbean’s most memorable destinations. The adults can relax knowing that, while they are working out in the gym, being pampered in the spa or swimming on deck, the youngsters are enjoying themselves, too.

Since accommodations, onboard meals (featuring authentic Italian dishes, international delights and a children’s menu featuring younger-set favorites such as hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza) and European-style entertainment on the ship is included, Mom and Dad will know the bulk of their vacation’s cost before setting sail.

“Give yourself and your family a memorable experience and let MSC Cruises take you all to the Caribbean,” says Henwood. “Whether it is parents or grandparents taking advantage of the free kids program, MSC will create a memorable experience in the Caribbean for all.”

Will Mobile AL Get a Second Cruise Ship?

Al.com and The Press-Register is reporting that according to Mobile Mayor Sam Jones, in addition to Carnival announcing that itwould continue to serve Mobile, but a second line has expressed interest in coming to the city.

The Mayor is stating that either Carnival Cruise Lines would bring second ship to the city, or another cruise line may begin operations on a trial basis.  According to the Mayor, another cruise line has visited the city to take measurements for a “larger ship”  Although we can’t tell what he means by a “larger ship,” he could mean a large ship in general, or a ship larger than Carnival’s Holiday which currently sails from Mobile.

An announcement about an additional ship coming to Mobile is expected in the next three months.

Princess Sends a Letter to Passengers Regarding Crown Princess

The following letter from Alan Buckelew, President of Princess Cruises was released today:

Dear Passenger, We at Princess Cruises would like to take the opportunity to comment about the incident of last week, when Crown Princess experienced a strong list following her departure from Port Canaveral, Florida. We express our sincerest apologies for this regrettable event, and fully understand that this was a distressing experience for all who were on board. We especially extend our apologies to those passengers and crew who were injured. We are grateful that the injuries were not life-threatening, and also that those transferred to hospitals for evaluation and treatment have now been released with the exception of one passenger, for whom we wish a speedy and full recovery. Following the incident, we immediately cooperated with representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), and the Bermuda flag authorities. Following an extensive assessment, Crown Princess departed New York last Saturday July 22 on a seven-day voyage, having received clearance to sail by the U.S. Coast Guard and the Bermuda flag authorities. We can appreciate there may be concern as to the cause of this incident, and questions about whether it could happen again. As you may be aware, there is an investigation into the incident being carried out by the U.S. authorities which has not yet been fully completed. It would therefore be inappropriate for us to comment in any detail before that investigation is complete and the results published. However, we can confirm that the incident was due to human error and the appropriate personnel changes have been made. We want to unequivocally emphasize that we would never operate an unsafe ship, nor would the U.S. Coast Guard allow a ship to sail that had any safety issues. We want to assure passengers who may be booked on an upcoming sailing, or those who may be thinking about traveling with Princess, that the highest priority for our company is the safety and well-being of our passengers and crew. Sincerely, Alan Buckelew President Princess Cruises

Carnival Continues Commitment to Mobile
Carnival Holiday

Carnival Cruise Lines, the world’s largest cruise operator, has extended its contract with the City of Mobile, Ala., for another year, thus allowing the line’s 1,452-passenger Holiday to continue operating its popular four- and five-day Mexico cruises from the Alabama Cruise Terminal.

Carnival launched the first and only year-round cruise program from Mobile in October 2004. Since then, the voyages have been enormously successful, consistently operating in excess of 100 percent occupancy (based on two per cabin) and accounting for approximately 125,000 passengers annually from that port.

“Consumer response to ‘Fun Ship’ cruising from Mobile aboard the Holiday has been exceptional. We are very pleased to extend our contract with the city – a valued business partner – and continue offering fun, affordable vacations from one of the cruise industry’s finest terminal facilities,” said Bob Dickinson, Carnival president and CEO.

“Mobile’s partnership with Carnival Cruise Lines has been a tremendous success, boosting the city and the state of Alabama tourism market,” said Mobile Mayor Samuel Jones. “Mobile is a great port for cruising, so Carnival’s third year contract extension is welcomed news and a testament to the city’s positive value for the industry.”

On its Mobile-based cruises, the 46,052-ton Holiday departs from the Alabama Cruise Terminal Thursdays on four-day cruises to Cozumel, and on Mondays and Saturdays on five-day cruises to Cozumel and Calica/Playa del Carmen or Costa Maya.

The SuperLiner Holiday is part of Carnival’s fleet of 21 “Fun Ships,” which operate voyages ranging from three to 14 days in length to the Bahamas, Caribbean, Mexican Riviera, Alaska, Hawaii, Canada, New England, Bermuda, Europe and the Greek Isles.

Carnival is currently accepting reservations on all of the Holiday’s 2006-2007 departures from Mobile.  Visit Cruise Planners or call us at 888-286-9827 to book your Carnival Cruises vacation.
