Carnival Passenger Jumps Overboard Bizarre Cruise Story of The Month (maybe the year!) Cruise Community (registration required :( )is reporting that a passenger was witnessed jumping over the side of the Carnival Legend near Tortola on Saturday May 27. According to reports, the man jumped from his balcony after arguing with his wife... The ship searched with the Coast Guard for 12 hours but was unable to locate the passenger. The Carnival Legend was cleared to return to New York on Sunday night. Important Safety Note: When sailing on a cruise ship (or any ship for that matter) don't let your temper, alcohol etc... get the best of you... It's never a good idea to try and disembark the ship from any location other than the gangways... Especially when the ship is underway!

Fired Captain Pleads Not Guilty We first posted this story on May 20 and we're continuing to follow the story about the Celebrity Cruises Captain who was arrested onboard his ship for being intoxicated a few hours before scheduled departure.  Shortly after his arrest onboard Celebrity's Mercury, Periklis Petridis was fired by the cruise line and the ship's departure was delayed while it waited for a replacement captain to report aboard. The Seattle Times is reporting that he appeared in Federal Court on Friday and pleaded not guilty to the charges. Mr. Petridis' attorney is seeking to have the charges dropped claiming that her client was not drinking on duty and that the breathalizer used was faulty. Mr. Petridis is currently staying in a Seattle hotel while out on $100,000 bail, his next court appearance is scheduled for June 6.
