On January 31, Holland America Line officially took delivery of their brand new Vista-class ship, the ms Noordam. The new Noordam features over 85% of staterooms with ocean views, and two-thirds with verandahs. Queen Victoria is Coming

Cunard has announced the first details on it’s latest ocean liner Queen Victoria. Cunard calls her a quintessential Cunard liner which is scheduled to enter service in December 2007.

The 90,000 ton liner will feature Cunard’s distinctive black hull, white superstructure paint job. Like her sister ships the Queen Elizabeth 2 and Queen Mary 2 the Queen Victoria is being designed from the ground up to be an ocean liner, which means she’s expected to have exceptional sea keeping abilities.

Queen Victoria’s maiden voyage “a Christmas Markets Voyage” is scheduled to be on December 11, 2007, the 10-night roundtrip sailing will leave from Southampton and will call at Amsterdam, Copenhagen (overnight call), Oslo, Hamburg and Bruges. On December 21 she will depart on a “Canary Islands Festive Celebration” this 16-night voyage will leave Southampton and call at Vigo, Lisbon, Malaga, Funchal, Las Palmas, Arrecife, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Casablanca and Gibraltar. Christmas Day will be spent at sea.

Reservations will open for these two special sailings will open on February 26 for prior Cunard passengers, and April 3 for all others.2007.

Celebrity Orders Two New Ships

Celebrity Cruise Lines

The South Florida Business Journal is reporting that Celebrity Cruise Lines has placed an order with German shipyard Meyer Werft for two 118,000 ton ships which will be named the Celebrity Solstice and Celebrity Equinox.

The two ships will make become Celebrity’s Solstice Class with the first being delivered in the fall of 2008 and the second in the summer of 2009. The ships are expected to be 1,033 feet long, 121 feet wide and accomodate 2,850 passengers. They’re expected to offer larger standard rooms, a higher precentage of which will be balconies as well as innovative new amenities.

More details on what we can expect onboard the Solstice and Equinox should be released as the ships near completion.
